Angelo Garro, the creator of Omnivore Salt, was born in Siracusa, a city on the coast of Sicily, Italy. He left Sicily at the age of 18 to study and practice metalsmithing, which took him all over the world—until he landed in San Francisco and opened Renaissance Forge in 1983. But he never forgot the love of food he was raised with.
